SAML (Security Assertion Markup Language) tokens are not an AWS service; rather, they're a standard for exchanging authentication and authorization data. In the context of AWS, SAML 2.0 federation allows you to use your existing identity provider (IdP), such as Okta or Ping Identity, to manage access to AWS resources. Instead of creating and managing individual AWS credentials for each user, your IdP handles authentication, and upon successful login, it issues a SAML assertion which AWS then uses to grant access, streamlining user management and security.
